Local lad, George Strevens is gearing up to running his first half marathon as he takes on the Chippenham Half taking place this Sunday 8th September.
George will be running in memory of his friend Ellie Gould. Ellie was found murdered at her home in Calne on the 3rd May 2019. In life, Ellie had a passion for horses and was a talented rider. Her favourite charity was Riding for the Disabled who run activities for disabled children and adults across the UK.
Training for the event started in May when George told Calne News:
"I am running Chippenham half marathon for Riding for the Disabled incorporating carriage driving because it meant a lot to Ellie, she had a passion for horse riding and always supported the RDA. In her name I want to continue that support and hopefully make her proud as well as many others close to her and the RDA.
"I didn’t know Ellie that long, around 9 months however, she had a huge impact on my life. Ellie is greatly missed by the many people whose lives she touched."
George orginally set a target of £3500 for RDA but donations have already exceeded that amount, with the total currently standing at just over £4000.
This week we contacted George again to find out how he was feeling, he told us: " Training is going very well, it’s a little tiring but the support that I’m getting has pushed me through it.
I’m a little nervous but It’s a huge occasion for me and many others. I’ve raised more than I could ever imagine. "
