Calne Town Mayor, Cllr Robert Merrick officially opened Calne's newest shop in the High Street today.
Maria‘s Flowers and Pet Supplies has opened for business in the retail unit next to it's predecessor, Shirley's Flowers and Pet Supplies.
Shirley's traded in town for 58 years until the shop was closed for good in April this year following Shirley's death. Maria Dunt had worked at Shirley's for 19 years, running the shop in the later years.
Just like Shirley's, Maria will supply cut flowers, plants and pet supplies, however, Maria has opted not to stock livestock, she told Calne News: "I want the shop to have a nice fresh feel and don't want it to become over cluttered. I have a varied and small amount of stock at the moment until I work out what shoppers want. I am more than happy to order in anything we don't currently stock if there is a need for it."
Bearing this in mind, there is still plenty of choice already available in store. Amongst the basics are a lovely range of treats for dogs and cats, an impressive range of choices for small mammals and some lovely choices to keep your garden wildlife happy. The shop has a nice clean and friendly feel all complimented by Maria's vast amount of knowledge in the industry.
Alongside the shop trade, Maria has affiliated herself with Direct2Florist to continue to supply flower delivery to Calne and Surrounds. The shop is currently on a five year lease with an option to extend after five years.
Today Maria's family and friends gathered in the brand new shop as she prepared to venture out on her own as a shop owner. Working in the shop today was her friend Teresa who also worked at Shirley's 14 years ago and Maria's husband Andy. Her parents Pauline and Keith were at the opening to support Maria alongside family friend, Sue Cleverly and Bob the dog who gave the shop his seal of approval.
