A change of use application has been submitted to Wiltshire Council for the former Youth Drop-In Centre in Calne town.
Calne Youth Drop-In Centre in Wood Street, closed it's doors in June last year after 18 years of providing a safe and fun place for 11 to 16 year olds to go and hang out with friends. Rent for the privately-owned building had increased by £3,700 and Calne Town Council who funded the Trust, could not afford the increase.
The application put forward is for a change of use to a hot food takeaway.
Residents have already been voicing their dismay at the range of shops in Calne town centre, with even more empty units appearing over recent months.
Should the application be passed it will mean yet another food outlet in the same area as Joy Balti, Charcoal Grill, Lucky Boat, Spice of Bengal, Sammy's Kebabs, Dolphin Fish Bar and Domino's Pizza.
The planning application number is 19/03771/FUL and any comments to the council should be sent by 27th May 2019.
