Families lined up along the river today, Saturday 11th May, to watch the Calne Lions annual Duck Race which raises funds for local charities.
More than 3000 ducks made their way from the bridge at The Co-op in Mill Street to the finish line at Marden House helped along by Calne Lions. There were five races ; Business Duck Heat 1 and 2 followed by Schools, Business Duck Final and then finally the Little Ducks.
Community groups and businesses filled The Wharf with fundraising stalls, 1st Calne Scouts tent were selling shaped bottles you could fill with coloured sands. Other stalls included Calne Bowls Club, Lansdowne Ladies, Calne Our Place, Calne Evangelical Church, Free Wheelers - Blood Bikes, Wiltshire Jamboree Contingent, Calne Royal British Legion and The John Bentley School who were raffling teddies to raise funds for their Year 11 Prom.
Eartunes Radio were busy broadcasting live from The Wharf providing running commentary on the races.
The Business Duck winners were: 1st - Bex's Pets, 2nd - Hilmarton Group 3rd - Wilkin's Builders
The School Duck winners were: 1st - Humpty Dumpty Nursery, 2nd - Hilmarton School, 3rd Buttercup Kindergarten
The Little Ducks winners were : 1045 - 2671 - 1902 . The first prize is £200, second prize £100 and third prize is £50.
A quacking good day was had by all.
