OVERNIGHT vandalism has forced Calne Town Council to close the male public toilets in The Pippin.

pippin toilets calne newsThe toilets have been regularly targeted by vandals, last year the toilets had to be closed after significant damage was caused, they re-opened at the beginning of 2023 and since then there have been regular reports of vandals gluing and breaking door locks and defacing advertising posters.

Last night vandals caused extensive damage to the site once again and consequently the toilets will remain closed for the foreseeable future while Calne Town Council Officers explore the options for repairing the damaged caused.

The toilets had been upgraded to include waterless urinals which offered a cost saving on water and were kinder to the environment - sadly, these have been broken and the council say replacing them will negate any money they had anticipated saving by installing them.

The female toilets currently remain open.

Director of Council Services, Mr Steve Nash said, “It’s always sad when mindless vandalism denies our residents essential welfare facilities that benefit the whole community on occasion, even those people who are causing the damage. We know those involved and have asked the local patrol officers to seek out evidence from witnesses”.
