Calne News 1

Hundreds lined the streets of Calne town on Saturday evening to watch the annual lantern parade - Calne's Christmas Festival Of Lights Festival 2022.

The parade set off from Bremhill View Social Club  and was led through the town by the Town Crier and the Mayor, closely followed by Father Christmas travelling with Eleanor who had the important job of switching the town's Christmas lights on, and of course, Calne Lions.

Local schools, clubs and community groups paraded with their laterns which included snowmen, Santas, Calne Scouts had made their logo into a lantern, and there was a brilliant bike shaped lantern from Calne Bike Meet.

At the end of the parade, all eyes turned to the main stage, kindly provided by JJ&S Transport, where singing duo The DeciBelles entertained with Christmas songs and carols until it was time for Eleanor to perform the big switch on.

Earlier in the day, shoppers were treated to a variety of stalls both around the town centre and in the Town Hall.

Eartunes Radio kept the tunes playing all day from the mainstage, donkey rides were available at The Wharf, circus skills workshops and Punch & Judy shows thrilled youngsters and there were even some stilt walking angels who were happy to pose for photos with the crowds.
