Calne News 1

MEMBERS of the group 'Sustainable Calne' were in Phelps Parade on Saturday, raising awareness of the climate emergency and collecting signatures for a letter to our MP, James Gray.

sustainable calneIn just two hours, over 100 people in Calne signed a letter to James Gray MP urging him to ensure the Government acts to honour its commitment to net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

A member of the group told us: "Members of Sustainable Calne approached shoppers in Phelps Parade last Saturday and were pleased and surprised by the response of local people to the issue of climate change.

"The majority of those approached showed that they knew about the climate emergency, were very concerned and wanted the Government to act now."

The letter asks that the government renews plans to cut emissions, enables renewable energy projects; increases the extent of the windfall tax on oil companies, and retains current laws for the protection of wildlife.

The letter has been sent to James Gray MP and the group are awaiting his response.
