Calne News 1

A PLANNING application has been submitted for a change of use at the site formerly occupied by Your Move in Calne.

Mr Kapuge Asanka Perera from Swindon has submitted the application for a change of use from class B to Sui Generis - To enable a fried chicken restaurant including dining in and deliveries for the empty unit at The Square in Calne town centre.

chicken yourmove1Proposed floor plans show an area accommodating a dining area for 9 tables, customer toilets, office, kitchen, food prep area, staff toilets and stock room.

The unit has stood empty since February 2019 when Your Move Estate Agency became one of 43 branches nationwide to be unexpectedly closed.

But, does Calne need another fast food outlet? We went out and about yesterday afternoon to ask the people of Calne.

Linda, 63 said: "No, it's ridiculous, why can't we have something nice in there that will make people driving through think they'd like to stop and have a look? Another takeaway isn't needed!"

David, 71 said: "Well, I don't know, if it is what the younger generation want I suppose so. I don't buy fast food so I don't know if I am the right person to ask, I do wonder what the new residents in the Churchill flats will think of the shops here though."

Bradley, 24 said: "I think we have got the fried chicken covered here to be honest, we are good for takeaways, charity shops and hair and beauty places, I think another chicken shop will be another reason for the bigger shops not to bother with us."

The opinion on social media echoed these thoughts with the majority of comments not in favour. There were some however, who thought that anything in the empty unit was better than nothing.
