A councillor who only started running during the first lockdown is preparing to run his first London Marathon.

marathon samSamuel Pearce-Kearney will be taking part in the 26.2 mile race on Sunday, 2nd October to raise as much money as he can for Guy's & St.Thomas' Charity.

The 2022 London Marathon will be the 42nd running of the annual London Marathon. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the race was postponed from April until October to maximise the chances of a mass participation event

Sam only recently started work at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust, as a Patient Engagement and Experience specialist - Guy's and St Thomas' is one of the UK's leading providers of hospital and community-based healthcare, research and education.

A few weeks ago, Sam was given a last minute space for the marathon by Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity.

He said: "I never used to like exercise. In school, I asked the doctor for a letter to get me out of doing sports.

"I started running during the first lockdown and have never looked back. I even ran Chippenham half marathon last week and loved it.

Sam is recognisable around town as one of our councillors, he represents Calne South and works hard for our community on top of his work commitments and training.

The money you donate will go towards things like:

- making our children’s hospital feel more like home, with wards that provide a sanctuary for families and a play space for children.

- revitalising staff in times of crisis, supporting their mental health and wellbeing.

- fuelling innovation in care like special illuminating equipment that makes injections easier, new treatments for tackling chronic back pain and the 3D MRI scanner that helps diagnose heart problems in babies while they’re still in the womb.

Last year the hospitals saw 127,000 inpatients and day cases, 1.47m outpatients, recruited 26,851 patients to groundbreaking research studies. All including patients from Wiltshire.
