A local businessman is struggling to pay the rent on his shop in Calne and now needs the support of the local community to save the business from collapse.

blackberry fruitBlackberry Fruit and Veg opened in the High Street six months ago. The shop had previously been left empty for months following the death of Shirley of Shirley's Florist and Pet Shop in 2019.

Owner, Abdelkarim Alkassem has signed a three year contract on the unit but is already at his wits end as to how he will manage to pay the rent if footfall doesn't increase. The situation has got so bad, that despite his best endeavours the owner is now seeking to find someone who may be willing to take on the shop if the situation doesn't improve.

The shop is impressively stocked with every type of fruit and veg you can think of, and when many supermarkets had run out of fresh nuts and other Christmas essentials, they were all in stock at the conveniently located Blackberry shop at 29 High Street.

This new year, many of us will have pledged to try and reduce our carbon footprint in 2022 and endeavour to eat a healthier diet. What better way to make a difference than to buy locally grown fruit and veg from a shop right on your doorstep? Many of the vegetables on offer have been grown in Bromham.

Blackberry even offer free delivery on fruit and veg boxes which will provide you with all the inspiration you need to start the new year off with a healthier diet.

The shop is open seven days a week - 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm Saturday and 10am to 2pm Sunday. You can contact them for free delivery on fruit or veg boxes by calling 07462 272806.
