WE are sorry to mention the 'C-word' but just as summer seems to have finally arrived, can we talk about Christmas?
The campaign 'Light Up Calne For Christmas' is back and this year with plenty of time to plan, it could be even bigger and better than 2020.
When the pandemic hit last year, our town's traditional Christmas Lights Festival had to be cancelled.
The festival has always been a popular event in the town especially amongst our younger people, which is why one resident came up with a plan to make Christmas as special as possible after a difficult year.
Claire Willoughby wanted as many homes as possible in Calne and surrounding villages to light up the outside of their homes for Christmas, and so in a Calne News backed campaign 'Light Up Calne For Christmas' was launched.
The campaign was met with such enthusiasm that the town saw more than 200 homes join in. From a simple string of lights to inflatable Santas, more homes than ever sparkled for the Christmas season.
This year may not be as grim as last year but Claire is eager to run the campaign again for 2021 and hopes to encourage even more participants.
The date for this year's 'Big Switch On' will co-ordinate with the town's Christmas Lights Festival - 27th November 2021 at 5pm. The town lights will switch on at 6pm all being well with any Coronavirus restrictions.
Claire has already started planning her own display which may include some 8ft Nutcrackers! She told us: "The sooner people make plans the better, we might make 500 homes this year."
So, if you would like to join in this year, let us know and we will add you to our 2021 map, it's never too early - apparently!
