The NHS website for booking vaccination appointments crashed on Tuesday morning after those aged over 45 were allowed to receive a jab.

covid vaccinationResidents in Calne who managed to get through on the website have reported being offered appointments as far afield as Reading and Poole.

This has led to an amount of confusion and concerns to those unable to travel long distances to obtain their vaccinations, with some left wondering whether they need to travel or whether they will be eventually offered a booking closer to home.

Calne News posed the question and the answer is that this age group simply need to be patient and that they won’t be missed.

Gill May, Director of Nursing and Quality at Bath and North East Somerset and Wiltshire Clinical Commissioning Group told us:

“The vaccination rollout programme across Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire continues to make great progress and we are now starting to offer the vaccine to those aged 45 and over, as well as continuing to provide second doses to all of those in eligible categories.

"Appointments for the 45-49 age group are becoming available through the National Booking Service and some GPs and more will be opened up over the next few days.

"We ask that those who fall into this age group are patient while we work to open up appointment slots.”
