Local firefighter, Matt Johnson will be donning his fire kit on 17th March to raise funds for The Firefighters Charity as he runs the Bath Half Marathon.
Matt will take on his first Bath Half Marathon to raise as much money as he can for The Firefighters Charity, depending on how well his training goes, he is even thinking of running with a full BA (breathing apparatus) set on his back. He said: "I have decided to raise money for the Firefighters Charity as I am lucky enough to be part of my local Fire and Rescue Service and what a satisfying job it is. With any job it can be challenging at times but I really feel that the Fire Service is both physically and mentally demanding, firefighters are faced with various incidents daily which do have an effect on firefighters both physically and mentally.
"I have been offered support from the Firefighters Charity as part of a rehab program after sustaining an injury from playing rugby. Although I didn't take up the offer I want to be able to give something back to those current and past firefighters that have served the community and sustained injury or require further support."
