English Tourism Week runs from 25th to 31st May this year and with the current measures put in place to limit our travel, Visit England have come up with a great promotion we can all join in, to support English tourism.
The idea is simple, Thursday the 28th May is #ThrowbackThursday and the plan is to post your photographs of holidays, days out or celebrations held in and around Calne from Avebury to Bowood to support the recovery of English tourism and raise awareness of the importance, quality and value of the sector to the UK economy.
We are lucky to live in such a picturesque area, from the ancient stones at Avebury National Trust via Calne along the A4 to Bowood House and Gardens – there is plenty to do and see for all the family along our stretch of the Great West Way.
Surrounded by scenic open countryside and the spectacular North Wessex Hills you can roam around the famous Cherhill White Horse and Monument and marvel at the spectacular views .
Maybe you have visited a local attraction like Atwell-Wilson Motor Museum or the Reme Museum, the Calne Heritage Centre, a picnic at Castlefields Park or been to see the animals at Goatacre Animal Sanctuary.
Mark Edwards, Head of Business at Calne Town Council said: "I’d love to see loads of amazing local photos but it can be anything from UK.
"With new residents moving in and people looking for inspiration for holidays later this year it has a feel good factor of remembering better times and planning for the future."
Your photos don't have to have been taken locally, they could be from anywhere in the UK, but it would be nice to see a large presence for Calne and surrounds. Just remember to use the #ThrowbackThursday #EnglishTourismWeek and if you feel like it tag in @calnenews we would love to see them too.
